Our Curriculum

Our curriculum is based on the building blocks of the new national curriculum, which was introduced in September 2014.  The curriculum is our foundation but we have the freedom to develop our own curriculum responsive to our children’s needs in preparing them for the future. In 2014, we looked carefully at our curriculum; kept what we know is valuable and changed aspects that we have reviewed in response to staff and children’s views. This is an ongoing process each year.

We want to have a curriculum, which develops the whole person – knowledge, skills, understanding and attitudes; is broad, balanced and has clear progression in subject knowledge and skills and is filled with rich, first-hand purposeful experiences and clear contexts for learning.

From September 2014 children will not be ‘levelled ‘ using the national curriculum levels. At St Bartholomew’s have created our own system based on the assessment work we have already been doing. This means that until the government guidance is released later this year we will base our teachers and test assessment on a points system. This system will be explained to parents at parents evening.
